We are delighted to confirm that the Scottish Government has agreed to support us to consult on and produce governance guiding principles and resources specifically based on Scottish law and compliance and tailored to Social Enterprises and it will of course have relevance to the wider Third Sector. Since we have been assisting organisations, it has become apparent to us that organisations often struggle with governance requirements and only seek support when the issues become serious. Currently, there is no governance good practice guidelines specifically for third sector organisations in Scotland.

The environment in which social enterprises operate is changing. Recent updates in legislation mean that boards have more regulation and are more accountable than ever before. The Scottish Government has indicated that there will an increase in reliance on the SE and wider third sector to deliver the services demanded by our communities.

Taking that into account, we have identified the need for a more robust system of self-governance and approached the Government with our proposal to take the lead on the preparation of these good practice guidelines. We will be working on this in the next few months – watch this space!
